I got the special tool in the mail only two days after I ordered it from Dinzag arms. Those guys are great and make lots of cool, custom AK stuff. Seriously, check them out. Since they gun manglers in the shop have a lot on their plate, I asked if I could borrow the needed tools and do it myself. With my new, borrowed toys, I got busy in the garage and installed the muzzle brake. The first thing to do was reduce the outer diameter of the muzzle so that the die could cut threads. This was done using the special muzzle cutter tool, seen here:
Next up, was to crown the face of the barrel. This tool is from Brownells and gives it an 11 degree target crown.
The hardest part was cutting threads into the barrel. My vice is broken so I am having to use several large C-clamps to accomplish this. If anyone attempts to do this, do yourself a favor and get the correct tools and equipment. It will make things go so much smoother. Anyway here are some pictures of the die and thread starter. I was so pre-occupied actually cutting the threads that I forgot to take pictures, sorry.
Today, I am going to return the borrowed tools to the shop, show off my project, and hopefully get the front sight welded to the barrel. Oh, I also added a stubby Magpul vertical fore grip, you know, because “Tacticool.” Front sight and a paint job are all that remains for The STUPID carbine. Thinking about it now, I might just call it the “Turd Nugget”. Camo paint job coming soon, stay tuned.
